Originally a five piece, after the release of their eponymous first album John Jones (vocal) rock band photo and Terry Rowley (guitar) were dropped from the line up, leaving Glen Hughes (vocals rock band photo and bass - who went on to join Deep Purple as a replacement for Roger Glover in late 1973.), Dave Holland (drums, percussion) rock band photo and Mel Galley (guitar). The proto prog rockers defined stadium rock for an entire generation of smiley face sporting teenagers. With their sweeping concept albums, ten minute long song epics, rock band photo and virtuostic, overpowering guitar solos, STYX were everything that the raw, stripped-bare punk bands of the late Seventies were rebelling against.
